Tell us more about what your position means to you?
I started working here as an Accounts Receivable in 1998 and although it’s been a long time, I find my work here never gets boring as the business is fast paced. I’ve had the opportunity to work my way up, climb my personal career ladder and undertake a lot of responsibility. This was thanks to the support of my bosses who supported me in my development and gave me the confidence and coaching I needed. While my career path wasn’t clear to me initially, I’ve now reached a point where I love what I do! I’m happy to be a part of an international team, with a high responsibility while being the “go-to-person” when it comes to numbers, analysis, and statistics.
What makes what you do, remarkable?
Being part of the Compensation and Benefits team in Continental Europe is an important responsibility. Together with our finance directors, we implement and execute compensation and benefits strategies for more than 4,000 employees in 12 countries. I live up to my values of integrity and trust each day, since I have so much insight into confidential data and respect the privacy of our employees. I love being part of a diverse team and being exposed to the various and international HR projects while playing a specialist role in my field. This, for me, means having a career.
You moved from a German role to a Continental Europe role, what does this mean to you?
I’m in close touch with our Executive Team and our President from Continental Europe regarding important decisions that affect employees all around Europe. I also have the opportunity to get involved in projects with our colleagues from the Corporate Human Resources team and am currently involved in a worldwide HR project, being the leader for Continental Europe. Thanks to the company, my English has also improved tremendously through language courses and other development opportunities.
How does your passion support your success, personally and professionally?
I have a passion for numbers and people and approach all that I do with thorough diligence. I really like being able to use my financial skills while contributing to the Human Resources department, which allows me to merge my two greatest passions. Drawing on my background in Finance and Accounting, I’m able to support competitive pay strategies to recruit and retain talented employees and develop a culture that rewards performance. Occasionally, there are “high project phases” where I have to dedicate after-office-hours to complete the projects according to tight deadlines. There are also times where I can focus on my health my private life, to get a healthy and happy career balance.

My role is an important one within the organisation as I offer valuable knowledge and experience. I feel that my opinion is valued and I’m afforded the opportunity to be involved not only in pure product subjects but also in customer projects and tenders, marketing matters and strategy.
What makes what you do, remarkable?
Our retail product portfolio is unique - we’re always developing new products and applications. Life is never dull and I really enjoy working with various people, across different departments, countries and continents.
Rainer, you are working with the company for 25 years, what does this mean to you?
I started in the Technical Department because I wanted to have a long term workplace to support my family and myself. 25 years down the line and I’m still very happy working within this colourful environment which has opened up all sorts of opportunities. I enjoy knowing that our company gives value to our customers, as well as our staff.
How does your passion support your success, personally and professionally?
My passion is to be supportive to our customers and our internal organisation; I am happy if I can work on important customer projects. I try to strike a good balance between fuelling my passion by working hard and enjoying time out with my family.

Tell us more about what your position means to you?
I really enjoy being involved in the business and contributing to the performance of the company. Being part of the management leadership team means I get the opportunity to influence decision making on an operational and strategic level. I like carrying the responsibility for a big region with diverse cultures, languages, nationalities and business challenges and supporting the growth thereof.
What makes what you do, remarkable?
In my role, I am connecting strategy, goals, business performance and financial performance. I love bringing the “worlds” of finance, operations and strategy together. For me, it’s not only about figures and numbers; it’s about the business, the people and our customers.
Jürgen, how do you manage your diverse and multi-lingual team of men and women?
To start you obviously must master English to effectively communicate in the regions. Other language skills help. I also like working in a diverse environment, dealing with different backgrounds, cultures and business situations in general. I see diversity as an enrichment to my job and as a great benchmark for open discussions. For instance, having both men and women in my team allows for potentially different angles to the discussion and ultimately discovering the best solutions.
How does your passion support your success, personally and professionally?
If you like your job, then you’ll be successful. I like mine! It all starts with passion; if you like what you do, you can build, influence and improve yourself as well as your career direction.

I think it’s very important to gain both credibility and trust from the people I work with, so I always prioritise my customers and suppliers. I’m really pleased to have the opportunity to work within a passionate international team that handles complex projects and business problems while providing internal support.
What makes what you do, remarkable?
In addition to a product, we provide our customers with an overall solution that protects their assets, supports them and drives them to improve on their own business. It’s key for us to understand retail challenges and identify solutions to fit their specific environments. For me, it’s about systems, retail processes, business requirements and solutions while maintaining a 360° view of customers and the Johnson Controls business.
Ole, you travel around the world a lot, what does this mean to you?
Meeting different people with different cultures and attitudes is the most energizing part of my job!
It teaches one flexibility and accountability and allows me to adjust my strategy according to specific needs while keeping a defined target in your mind. (I also get to see a lot of the world, which is always a plus!)
How does your passion support your success, personally and professionally?
In today’s retail industry, it’s all about passion, spirit and emotion. Johnson Controls doesn’t limit me to follow the “usual” ways of doing business - I’m motivated to look outside the company culture set boundaries. My passion is my daily “energy bar” which allows me to go even further. Passion is part of my personality, and I try to share this with others to motivate them to join the journey.
